Friends could be a thing if Larus actually put in the effort to get to know people rather than avoid them for the sole purpose of believing his mission is the only mission and that he wouldn't, you know, murder them accidentally or on purpose. c:

LMAO WELL obviously she needs to just become a witch because it's the superior race and also the best one (according to Rune). But thank you!! Rune isn't the best to handle "alone" so having that buffer with Ciro always helps. I hope the game gets off to a good start so everyone can appreciate OCs.

Name: Valryn Melana
Age: 130, considered young adult age
Species: drow (class is warlock)
Setting: Dungeons & Dragons, 5e

Background/History: Valryn is the second born and oldest son to a moderately powerful matron in a large city-state in the Underdark, raised under a ferocious mother bent on overtaking matrons in higher standing than her while raising the first born daughter that's always been above him. Valryn early on in life observed ruthlessness, tenacity, poise, and aspiration. unfortunately, his fate was intended to be something more akin to his sister's bodyguard than having a position of power, but in being trained so closely to his sister for the potential day that she would take over as leader in their family, Valryn was more inspired to take after her — or even take over.

throughout formative years and into early adulthood, Valryn practiced magic in secret with other men in these feuding families who also desired something better than borderline-disposable guards to their families, but the small clan of them ultimately didn't last when Valryn's closest confidant was arranged for marriage into another family and broke off his ties to their group — this news and action betrayed Valryn primarily of all. Valryn, king of self control that he is, made the bright decision of attempting this once-ally's life out of revenge for being a 'traitor' for his choice in self-preservation by departing an already lofty goal of male magic practitioners overthrowing their families' expectations of them. it goes fantastically — bad for Valryn. in his failure that becomes swiftly known between the opposing family and quickly his own, a demon of revenge comes to him, sensing his failure and feeling kin to it, and in their bitter shame, they offer Valryn a pact.

deciding on saving his own skin in the scorching earth aftermath of a very not-diplomatic move and dressing it up as a "to hell with you all" maneuver, Valryn leaves the Underdark to come up to the surface world, because if drow already hate him, then it can't be much worse up top. it's there that he begins weaving his own standalone 'empire,' using what meager wealth he could cash out (steal) from his family to begin establishing an organization of services. he deals primarily in information he schmoozes out of people, or buys, or...gets through other means. he also collects protection money and hires the derelict drow he can track down that have been banished from or have escaped the Underdark as street-level soldiers for him. it's a surface-level drow-run mafia, basically.

Valryn himself is charismatic, unabashed, delights in unsettling those who aren't prepared to deal with him, challenging, and loves information. he loves scheming, gossiping, and genuinely enjoys himself...up until he is or decides he's been slighted. for where he comes from and has ingrained in him, he strangely has the potential to shift from chaotic neutral into chaotic good if he believes it suits him somehow, even if just touching upon his personal morals and codes, but for his age he's still quite young and in a new world that he's playing the long con to put his own reigns around.

CR Wishes: combative cr (not necessarily negative, but i'm always open for opposites attract, or at least...opposites getting stuck together against their will,) people from similar fantasy settings OR people from very different settings, and also...those who might actually give him the sense of community he's tried to establish before and failed to hold together, even if it's a group of absolute misfits, he can help class up the place. (also people who like to challenge others in fun ways, dangerous stunts for the clout, friendly sabotage on each other, love to enable and escalate shit. is this making friends?) i've never played Valryn in a game, only memes and psls, so i'm really curious to have him in this setting with other OCs! no knowledge of D&D needed to interact, his brand of ridiculousness is universal.

hi hi things got really away from me when we last spoke about stuff, and Ben has been in cryogenic sleep since so many apologies for going radio silent! i'm literally so close to securing some consistent down time in my life that it's comical, so here i am glancing this game over and see you here too!

i'm hemming and hawing over who of mine i might like here but Ben is on the list of consideration. i'd so love to get him to meet Ciro officially! (also still fond of the ideas we discussed for psl things; if you're still interested and once i'm fully back in the game beginning this or next week, i sure as hell would love to resume what i regrettably put on ice!)

A cool uncle can certainly be provided! I skimmed down to her entry (need to make time to read the whole thread today) and it seems she has had a particular problem with evil spirits. Goro has faced down a few of those himself, so would also be up for discussing that if she ever got to where she wanted to.

And it looks like both of your possible characters have been involved in Evil Supernatural Stuffs to varying degrees, so that essentially goes for both as a possible shared interest/experience. Those gosh darn evil supernatural forces. >:O

Hopefully I can provide! He is definitely a good cool uncle match for friendly/idealistic, though he's not as naive as he used to be.

Communication might be a bit of an adventure depending on how accustomed Jay is to reading non-human faces, but Goro is pretty patient and would be fine with writing or learning some signs as needed.
