Ah, yeah, a setting with heavily impaired travel/trade and only one god(?) wouldn't mesh very neatly. But that's fortunately not a problem for CR in general! I am 100% up for building on shared hobbies, and there might also be some interesting conversations to be had in differing views towards magic, owing to the differences in their homeworlds and upbringing.
His own homeland/tribe is effectively theocratic, with each village having two head priests advising a chief who can be challenged and replaced by a new chief at any time. So he's certainly familiar with the concept of some casters being a social class of their own - but they are trained, not born, and it didn't end up as dystopian as her setting sounds.
