TEST DRIVE MEME 001.2
What Will You Do Now, Traveler?

I. Greetings, Travelers.
You heard the voice, the song, the Call. You turned toward that voice and are falling, tripping through time and space, colors swirling all around you. You blinked.
You open your eyes to the great sprawling roots and unbending branches of the Tree of Harmony above you, looming across a twilight sky. You look around to find yourself in an open roof auditorium. And you are not alone. Others are there, waking up just as you are when figures step from around the tall stark columns circling the center of the room.
”Greetings, Travelers. The Sentinels of Restoria welcome you to our Greenhouse of Unity. The Devourer comes for us all and we must bond our worlds to save them. We cannot save your worlds without your help.”
Your guide will lead you down a long staircase to another area of the Greenhouse’s compound: the Hall of Travelers. There you will be told what to expect of your time in Restoria, of the impending cosmic threat of the Devourer and the corrupting influence of the Enders, and the importance of strengthening this world in order to save yours. If you accept, you will select a House: Stone or Cloud. Your House will provide benefits to you to help you in your new role, should you choose to accept it, including your choice of communication device and guidance in your spiritual training.
If you need additional time to consider, you will be given leave to rest there in the Hall itself on one of the many comfortable cots provided for your rest period. Simple vegetarian meals are on offer, and Travelers are allowed to wander the public areas of the Greenhouse, such as the Grand Hall and Conservatory, or to peruse the Shop and its small library. Maybe others will need time just as you do to think about the serious decision you are undertaking.

II. Fun and Games
Those that choose to stay will be led to common area of the Travelers' Dormitory for yet another orientation: this time, on how to use your brand-new communication devices! More specifically, how to play children's games on them. The mastery of Restorian magitech requires mental focus, and that takes practice. After an invigorating demonstration of a new-age holographically displayed twist on tic-tac-toe, Pictionary, marbles, Pong, or any other game one could complete indoors in relative safety, Restorians will leave Travelers to practice amongst themselves. Successful players will be able to graduate to increasingly more challenging games, like chess or shogi!
It might feel strange to play classic games on an alien device, but whatever you can imagine, your device can replicate it in gently glowing 3D. Perhaps you'd like to introduce a new acquaintance to a pastime of your childhood?
Those who suffer from wandering minds take heed, however. Instead of fun and games, amateur users of communication devices might find the darned thing broadcasting their innermost thoughts - no matter how deeply buried or fleeting - for all to hear and/or see. Hopefully you weren't thinking of anything embarrassing... or inappropriate. Or rude!
Especially if that happens to be your future roommate...

III. Can't We All Get Along?
Starlight help you if you do utter something rude or untoward that provokes a fellow Traveler, because any unpleasantness or fighting will be swiftly interrupted should any Sentinel overhear! Restorians will explain that discord and disunity is not welcome on this world, but they will not forgive Travelers for their ignorance. No, any sign of disagreement will be swiftly "corrected" in the traditional method...
Meaning that those witnessed instigating or participating in an altercation by a Sentinel will be tied together by the hands with magical bindings that cannot be undone until all involved parties either reach a genuine agreement, or offer their heartfelt apology for the offense - at which point the bindings will unravel, assuring all onlookers of peace at last.
In extreme cases, such punishments have been known to last for entire sun cycles.

A full sun cycle has yet to pass before every Traveler's communication device suddenly beeps and vibrates in unison. A 3D projection, translucent and softly glowing, appears from each amulet or bracelet, showing the placid face of a Sentinel as he speaks. His words appear on a light blue hologram screen in real-time beside him. Although his expression is calm, his deep voice carries a hint of tension.

⚠ All Travelers
Greetings, Travelers. We have received word that a herd of Lost beasts have entered the compound from the Umbral Forests. These animals are aggressive and seek to destroy our operation here. These are unusual circumstances indeed and we are unprepared to counter their attacks.
Until aid arrives from the Houses of Cloud and Stone, we are counting on you, Travelers. We seek combatants, trackers, healers, and those gifted in the purifying arts. Every effort helps.
Until aid arrives from the Houses of Cloud and Stone, we are counting on you, Travelers. We seek combatants, trackers, healers, and those gifted in the purifying arts. Every effort helps.
The transmission cuts off, but written instructions follow: prepared volunteers are to assemble by the Pool of Reflection in the Greenhouse of Unity immediately, where they will be divided into pairs to track the rampaging beasts through the forests that surround the Greenhouse, trapping them without harm in the provided energy nets if able, but subduing them by force if necessary. The "Lost" beasts in question are known as Vine Elk. They stand as tall as an Earth elk and possess twice the sheer power in their hooves, and they blend perfectly into the greenery with their mossy fur and shaggy, leaf-like manes. They can be tracked by following their haunting bellows.Close in near enough, and the Elk are not hard to find. They will fearlessly charge any Traveler on sight, luminous eyes wild, aiming to gore them with their foliage-covered antlers. While it may be difficult to cut through the vines and foliage to reach their skin, if felled, their bodies will dissipate into a foul ooze that may cause nausea upon being touched. If trapped, they will be collected by teams of Restorians upon your contact.
Whenever possible, a combatant Traveler will be paired with a support such as a healer, but these are urgent circumstances and some exceptions must be made. Those who are too injured to continue after facing off with a Vine Elk will wake up (perhaps in the company of other injured Travelers) beneath the Tree of Unity, with temporary dizziness and headache. Damage taken will be healed, but the aches will continue for a day or two.
🎲 Optional Roll
Are you brave enough to roll the dice? Rolls are not required to participate in a quest prompt, but some items are available only through a successful roll.
Characters with purifying magics or strong spiritual empathy may add +2.

1 - 3
Uh oh. You've stumbled across the mother of all Vine Elk and you don't stand a chance. You'd better run - or else eliminate it before it eliminates you.
4 - 8
Success! You're able to subdue the beast without grievous harm to yourself or it. Try not to brag too much.
9 - 10
Oh? Once trapped, the previously raging Vine Elk seems calmed by your presence. After it is purified and restored by the powerful native magic of the Restorians, the creature seeks you out, refusing to leave your side!

II. Fun and Games
Test Quest! (bad end)
2
Hm? Yes, it's working, I can hear it. Oh, maybe you can't hear me. One moment.
[He holds up a finger, and begins to get his own device out, trying to type. With one finger, hunt and peck style.]
I
But nothing was wrong with his senses; as the other approached, Dias straightened up, looking his way. "Certainly you may sit here if you wish," he said, interpreting the gestures as a desire to sit and eat.
Test Quest
You are awake! How do you feel?
[She could tell that 'bad' was likely high on the list, but this was the one whose device spoke for him. Rushing her words was bad, thus, and rushing him would do no good either. Azami could be patient.]
Fun and Games
There's a soft gasp from him as he pulls away, not intentionally of course, but more so out of habit. He'll look at the other man signing and he blinks. He knows...sign language?! ]
I can hear you just fine. But...you know how to sign?
[ Shigeru will sign as he idly clasps his own vial of strange liquid in a gloved hand. ]|
I'm still getting used to using these things...they're kind of strange, right?
Barbara | House of Stone
[Barbara's been confined to a castle and its surrounding grounds for most of her life, so the sudden jump from familiar to unfamiliar is strange to say the least. That isn't to say she's wary though; as she's lead one way or left to wander another, she meets everything with a simple curiosity and isn't afraid to approach anything that catches her eye.
Though being in a new world, food remains a priority. She's taken a meal...or two...no, that's definitely her third. She won't pass it up, but it doesn't seem to be very substantial for her.]
Excuse me.
[Her voice isn't anything out of the ordinary. Somewhat deep but recognizably a woman's...it's just that unless you're unusually large, you might find yourself face to face with her lower half, as the woman addressing you is roughly ten feet tall. Despite this, she carries herself with far more reserved body language that you might expect.]
If you don't mind me asking, are you going to eat that?
[The meal. In your hands. "Yes" is a safe bet but you can't blame her for trying.]
II Fun and games
[It's not that she doesn't have her own culture's games to play, it's just...she's a lot more interested in new ones. For a time Barbara can only be seen observing, but eventually she approaches once she's had her fill of just watching.]
Would you be so kind as to show me the ropes, so to speak? I'm unfamiliar with this game.
[Whaddya playin, stranger]
III Test Quest!: Rolled a 6
[Barbara's chosen weapon is a Kanabo, an enormous iron rod with a spiked surface on the bludgeoning end. She carries it rested across her shoulder, both eyes and ears wide open for their targets.]
Are you capable of fighting?
3
[He's not exactly tall, and while he's not thin, he's not the level of brawn that Barbara is by any means.]
Only if I must. I'm much more comfortable in a... support role.
no subject
[She can support by...shielding people with her super tough body. That's about the extent of it. Better to have someone actually capable of providing for that role so she can be the DPS she was made to be.]
Although I've never been hunting before, I must confess.
[Past the formal speech, is that a slight hint of excitement? It just might be.]

Soft-spoken and undeniably shy Shigeru will awkwardly look away. ]
No! I. I don't really like eating food other people have...prepared for me. So. You...you can have it. [ There's definitely something off given how he's wearing white gloves inside but, you know, some people just be like that?? ]

Ulari Orakos | House of Cloud
[So here it is.
All the signs of an End coming had been there for a year now. Now he finds himself in a world where they say that the vague, confusing visions he's had are not only real, but could be a direct relation to the creature seeking to undo the entire universe and beyond?
He laughed in their faces, but he wouldn't admit it was more anxiety than irony.
Ulari walked through the Hall, seeing the Shop, looking through the windows, not entirely sure how much of this he could believe. Did it matter in the end? He had seen the end coming and now he was told they could stop it. If he had learned anything it was that stopping the future, trying to change it, often turned out even worse than what it could have been. Not that he knew what could be worse than the end of the world, but he's sure the universe would think of something.
Better to worry about that later. He's got some hours to think it over so for now he'll keep looking around, maybe take a peak at the library, and scrunch his nose a bit at the food they're provided, ready to pass it over to anyone who might be nearby.]
Would you happen to be interested in taking this off my hands? I find myself full.
[Vegetarian judging the food prepared by other vegetarians? Oh certainly.]
II. Fun & Games
[Games! It's so simple and quaint that Ulari is amused by it. It does take some time to get the hang of the necklace he was given, but he manages. All that shows up first is colors and blurred shapes, but they become more clear the more focuses. He looks up from the projected figures and gives a smile to whoever might be in the room as he takes up most of the space on one of the communal couches.]
Care for a game? I'll even let you pick.
[Pictionary or Pictograms might be fun, but he wouldn't be against a game of chess, tic-tac-toe, or something else... He'll keep it clean. Mostly.]
III. Can't We All Get Along?
[It's not as if Ulari went out of his way to offend people, it's just that he also doesn't particularly care if he does. People can think what they want about him and his opinion. It's not as if he's making them take it. Everyone has a right to believe what they want.
But a bit of light disagreement and banter--on his part--shouldn't have led to this. Having their hands tied together until they apologize it downright juvenile.]
I'm certain you're taking this all too seriously.
[The other person will hopefully be agreeable to them apologizing and making nice to get this over with.]
IV. Test Quest! (Rolled a 9)
I hope you're the sturdy sort that doesn't get injured often.
[Of all the things that Ulari thought he would be called to use here in this world, his healing skills wasn't one of them. He's rarely had to use them in the last ten years and is sure he's outdated in his techniques. So all he can do it hope his partner can deal with all of this on their own, because he's not a fighter. Very far from it.
And no, he's not going to climb on an Elk like it's some kind of pet. He's got some pride as an Anima. No matter how much the Elk might seem to like him... Maybe he could convince his partner to do it.]
{OOC: Ulari has the ability to see someone's past, present, and future through touch of themselves or sentimental objects, but the ability will remain inactive unless someone opts in to it.}

[A device such as this is surely an Elemental artifact, is it not? Yet the runes he traces on his Stone-bracelet crystal only appear directly in front of him in midair. To his frustration, which he scrupulously avoids showing save for the increasing haste and coarseness of his efforts.]

[His answer is earnest and serious, only slightly distracted by his efforts to scribe a rune on the crystal of his Stone-house bracelet. All he seems able to do is make said rune appear in midair in front of him, which is obviously not his intent nor useful in any capacity.]

Clementine Graves | House of Clouds
Questing Country
"I do not," she replies, bowing slightly, politely. "Have a partner, that is. I may certainly watch your back if you would have me, though."
She bows again. "My name is Azami. It will be an honor to serve you." Likely her last name meant absolutely nothing, here, so she didn't bother to offer it. The device the other girl slung over her shoulder didn't look like much--like less than the girl herself did. Azami could see the simple strength she possessed, and that could definitely take them both far. "What would you have me do?"
Re: Questing Country
Azami su Miyabi | House of Clouds
She'd started in the Academy, of course. Azami had thought someone had called her name--perhaps someone had--and she had turned, only to find herself falling, all of her thoughts blurring. No runes could save her now, after all. Could they?
Azami blinked to find outstretched branches reaching above her--but this was not the harsh desert landscape of the Academy--no trees of this magnificence grew there, only hardy, scrubby brush carefully tended by students. This was nowhere she knew, with a faintly lit twilight gloom and a lusher scent carried on the wind. The smell of life. The sound of--people. Quite a fair number, to be precise.
She isn't inclined to rush into a decision--there were no such 'Houses' in Servryn, save for the one she was born into as a noble--so resting and simply watching seemed like a very good idea to her.
So for now? Azami keeps her council and watches the others, Travelers and Restorians alike, cross the Hall, though should anyone approach her, she offers a friendly smile and wave, and calls out.
"Hello there! Quite busy, is it not?" Because there certainly was a hustle and bustle going on!
III. Why Can't We Be Friends? (Can't We All Get Along?)
It began innocuously--Azami wasn't the sort to give offense normally, but she was used to wide and open spaces, not ones crowded with people--even at the Academy, there was space to move. Not so here--not at the moment, with crowds of all sorts of folk thronging their way through. She bumps someone with an elbow or steps on a foot by accident, and while she is immediately contrite, bowing her apologies, well...not everyone wants to accept such things straight off.
And of course, the Restorian Sentinels are right there to take Azami and her hapless companion to task!
"This was not my intention," the Knight repeats, sheepishly. Now that their hands are joined, she's even less inclined to offend, sitting as quietly as she can and looking quite sheepish.
IV. Test Quest (7+2=9, +2 purifying bonus)
Azami isn't certain what a 'vine elk' is, but if they're anything like a Miyabi yak, they're certainly dangerous enough. The yaks of her province are domesticated, of course, but domesticated does not always mean docile, and the warning that the elk were 'aggressive' and potentially capable of destroying things...well, that boded ill at best.
She hasn't got her runecarving tools here, and to her, that truly is a shame, but Azami had never let that slow her down in the past. Even a finger could serve, with enough force of will behind it to call the elements into focus. Rampaging beasts could be dealt with in at least two ways--three, if Azami wanted to chance the creatures' destruction.
But she didn't. So Psi and the five Elements. Definitely Spirit was necessary, to attempt to make the elk tranquil, but she could not properly make a decision without actually observing the beasts. The best she could do was make plans that would, of necessity, shift in the presence of the 'enemy'.
"Ah, well, it can't be helped," she said to herself, before looking up and offering a smile. "Even the best offence doesn't survive the first clash. We'll simply have to take our chances, eh?"
(OOC: feel free to PM this journal if you have any other ideas, I'm also willing to mirror your style, whatever's good!)

iv. test quest - rolled a 4
v. wildcard
( This is Calista Avison, an OC from the tabletop RPG Eclipse Phase, set in a postacpocalyptic, cyberpunk-y far future where the human race is close to extinction. Calista is currently a mercenary, but was part of an experiment 10 years ago in force aging children from birth to adulthood in a simulated environment, at least until most of the subjects went batshit crazy and started killing people. A few, like Calista, both managed to escape and aren't complete sociopaths. However, as part of the experiment, the subjects were exposed to a strain of an alien virus that granted them psi powers in exchange for a good chunk of their mental stability and, y'know, an alien virus taking up residence in their bodies and sometimes occasionally acting like it has a mind of its own -- Calista's makes her intensely paranoid and nihilistic off and on.
Anyway uh tl;dr she's cranky, cagey, and she swears a lot. I'm sorry?

So she ducked out of the offered path and started wandering onwards, opening doors and stopping by interesting looking rooms. And this one? Well, it's full of uncertain people, and people are fun. You begin to crave human company after Central locks you up for training.
Sure, she's been gifted the kinds of skills and powers people dream about, but damn. Who asked them to be so strict about it?
That's besides the point. Central are universes away, probably completely unaware of everything going on outside their little bubble. They are, in essence, irrelevant to her as she is now. So instead, Calanthe tugs the flower out of her hair and stares at it, fingers stroking withering petals until they stir with vibrant life once more, and laughs at the question asked.
"Yep. I already said yes. It sounds like fun if you ask me! We can see a whole new place we couldn't even imagine. Maybe we'll discover new things about ourselves, what do you think?"
There's hardly a downside if her singsong response is to be believed.

iv. test quest - rolled a 9! (healer)
She's petite at only four feet eleven inches and her hair is braided back away from her face in thick red plaits and it's clear that if left free it would be everywhere in curls. For this sort of mission, Arha has it tied back, though. She wears a simple tunic with two cylindrical hilts at each hip - her lightsabres - and soft grey blue trousers with boots to match. Arha is the least intimidating presence and there is a quiet peace about her that seems to radiate out into the world.
