Setting The world's going to Hell. Literally. 50 years ago rifts from Hell started opening up around Earth and demons poured in. Their goal? Take over Earth. The only reason it hasn't happened yet is because they have to rely on Hell Mages to open rifts for them and Hell Mages need years of training/get killed regularly by angels. (Heaven's a whole 'nother matter and humans don't really believe it exists).
There are government funded demon hunting groups and a lot of freelance groups, too. They work endlessly to fight back the demons and protect people from them, no matter how dangerous the work is.
There's a whole bunch of different types of demons, from monstrous to humanoid to shapeshifters who can blend in with humans. Demonism can spread among humans through dark magic, rituals, and demonic artifacts and is generally treated like a disease. Humans who turn into demons are either killed or locked up, usually, and half-demons are trusted about as much as actual demons.
Background/History Vander was born a half-demon but never knew his demonic father because he and his mother separated before Vander was born. He never knew he was a half-demon until he was in his 20s, after becoming a demon hunter following a demon attack on his high school. His mother confirmed the truth and Vander was left conflicted.
After the demon hunting group Vander was a part of found out about his heritage, they turned on him and used and abused him. He was eventually rescued by another demon hunting group who were appalled by his treatment, and he's since settled in with them. Despite knowing he's a half-demon, the new group treats him well, encourages him, and supports him. Not everyone is a dick to demons, just most people.
CR Wishes -Friends!! He doesn't have many of those. As in, no one outside of his demon hunting group. -People he can confide in about being a half-demon without panicking they're going to try and kill/hurt him. -People who don't mind reassuring him that he's a good person/worthwhile/the other issues he worries about since suffering through abuse. -He's gay as fuck so somewhere down the road, a boyfriend would be great. Setting Modern day earth. Scientists around the world are running experiments and tinkering with embryos to try and recreate whatever happens to cause people to naturally be born with super powers. The government is pretty interested in people with super powers and while they're not tracked down or kept a close eye on, governments around the world sure would like those people in their armies.
Background/History Nico is the product of embryo tinkering performed by Russian scientists. His family needed money and his parents signed up to be part of the project. Russian officials found out about the project and raided it, and all of the families involved scattered to the wind. Nico's family relocated to America, where he was born.
In school, he met a boy named Blaine, who he would later date when they were both adults. Blaine also turned out to have super powers (flight and super strength) and while Nico took to the streets at night as the masked hero Cinder to stop crime, Blaine took to the skies as Falcon. Neither of them knew the other's secret at first, and they fought a lot because Blaine kind of kills criminals while Nico doesn't, so Blaine's something of a well-intentioned villain.
To make a long story short, they eventually find out each other's secret, reconcile, and work together while continuing to date. Nico eventually asks his parents about where he got his powers, then goes to Russia to try and find out information, where he finds out that the children of the project are being hunted down there. He agrees to help the other surviving children stop this and wipe out what's left of the project leads.
